Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)
Provisional Entry for School Leavers scheme
For domestic school leavers who complete Year 12 in 2012, 150 Commonwealth Supported Places are available for the 2013 intake.
Selection for entry will be based on:
Students who receive an offer for the Provisional Entry scheme may choose to enrol in any of The University of Queensland’s Bachelor programs.** All offers are provisional and require students to achieve a minimum grade point average of 4.00 prior to entering the medical program. Applications must be lodged with the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) by 30 September 2012. Additional information will be provided regarding this process in due course.
Once students have received an offer they will be required to enrol in a Bachelor’s program that they meet the prerequisites for (with a minimum length of 3 years) as their pre medical degree e.g. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Health Sciences. Due to proposed amendments to The University of Queensland’s medical program,* the eligibility for International students studying Year 12 in Australia is currently being considered. This website will be updated when this process has been finalised. As a guide only, please note that selection for entry for international Year 12 students in the past has been based on UMAT or ISAT performance and an OP1 (or equivalent).
For further information refer to the School’s website: www.som.uq.edu.au
* The University of Queensland has commenced consideration of implementing a masters level, Doctor of Medicine program (MD – allowing the title Doctor of Medicine) in place of the current Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, from 2015. Please refer to the University’s MD website for more information regarding this possible program change: www2.som.uq.edu.au/som/OurSchool/Pages/mdprogram.aspx
** Please be aware that entry to a Masters of Medicine (MD) program may involve prerequisite courses (e.g. anatomy, physiology and biochemistry) or at least, recommendations, for study prior to an MD. While these prerequisites or recommendations have yet to be finalised, students are urged to consider a choice of first UQ degree that is likely to cover ’pre-medical’ material, that will assist with their medical program studies (i.e. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Health Sciences programs would be recommended).
Bachelor of Dental Science
